DOROTHEAS RACHE begins with the characters talking directly
to the camera and thus us, the viewers. But this is only one
of the many, many pleasantly weird things you'll discover
when watching this film. Right at the beginning we learn
that Dorothea, who introduces herself as a 17 year old girl,
has just made love to a Martian. And she even has a groovy,
smoking meteorite to prove it. The parents are concerned if
the pill will work in the case of interstellar sex ... The
rest of the film follows Dorothea as she tries to learn more
about love (both emotionally and physically) and ends up
being abused again and again by an amazing parade of creeps
and freaks before Jesus Christ himself pops up to give her
some good advice ... Did I mention that this film is weird?
The thing that cracked me up the most was Dorothea's father
who runs a firm that produces "laughing bags". That's some
kind of small mechanism that's in a metal box and is then
put into a bag. When you shake the bag you are treated to
hysterical laughter ... Awesome, just awesome! If only
contemporary German cinema were as fascinating as this 1972
film ...

DARKTOWN STRUTTERS is pure soul-crazed 70s entertainment at its maximum! I strongly urge all archivists of blaxploitation cinema to go out and hunt down this one-of-a-kind rarity, a blaxplo-comedy-musical that knows no bounds when it comes to absolute weirdness. Everything from the opening sequence ("Any similarity between this true life adventure to the story Cinderella...IS BULLS--T!") to the rest is genuine cinematic trash, but it's well worth the agony! ALABAMA'S GHOST was just as weird! I'm not too crazy about comedies, but the erraticly innovative formula was far ahead of its time (for 1974). Still, this is a one-way ticket to Funkland Junction! Among the highlights you'll get to see are a police car with a gargantuan siren and a cloning machine, which are hard to believe. The oddball taste does appear to fit well in DARKTOWN STRUTTERS, making this an enjoyable trip through a time when fashion trends and moral values have gone through mass transition.

Described as an unholy mix of 'The exorcist', 'Amityville horror', 'Plan 9 from outer space', 'Evil dead', 'Poltergeist', 'War of the gargantuas' and Michael Jackson's 'Thriller' video with a single-digit budget, this brilliant and idiotic Hong Kong flick keeps the freak-outs coming fast and furious throughout. Acting is non-existent and the, uh..."minimal" plot apparently exists only to provide a framework in which to present gratuitous scenes of worm-vomiting, demonic possession, decapitation and nubile starlets making congress with giant, grunting, slimey green Sasquatch-looking monsters. Generally pointless film features some of the worst special effects ever seen but is never less than massively entertaining

In this pseudo-shockumentary,

Originally released in 1961 as Five Minutes to Live, this low-budget crime drama was later rereleased as Door-to-Door Maniac. Fred (Tayback) narrates the film in flashback, detailing a suburban bank robbery that goes awry. In his simple plan, he hires a hard-up hood, Johnny Cabot (Johnny Cash) to take the wife of the bank's vice president hostage. Cabot will hold her until he gets a call alerting him that Fred has been successful in getting ransom money. Cabot waits, and watches the Wilson house as the husband (Woods) leaves for the bank and their young son (Howard) heads off to school. Posing as a door-to-door guitar instructor, he forces his way into the house and takes Nancy Wilson (Forrester) hostage. At the bank, Fred talks his way into Ken Wilson's office, and presents his personal check for $70,000, intending that Wilson will withdraw the funds to cover the check as a ransom for his wife. He has Wilson call home to prove that Nancy is being held by the unstable Cabot, and gives Wilson 5 minutes to make his decision. If Fred fails to call the house back, Cabot is to kill Nancy. Wilson confesses to Fred that he has been planning to run off to Las Vegas with Ellen (Mason), the woman he has been having an affair with, and Fred will be doing him a favor by getting rid of Nancy. But as the minutes tick by, Wilson cracks and agrees to give him the money. Fred make the first call to save Nancy. The clock starts ticking again, another 5 minutes, for Fred to collect the money and get out of the bank safely. While Fred is working on Wilson, Nancy is terrorized by Cabot-- manhandled and shot at, invited to slip into something more comfortable (which she does in a futile attempt to distract him) and finally forced to listen to him serenade her with "Five Minutes to Live" and "I've Come to Kill" while he waits for the second call. The call hasn't come as Fred has been overpowered by the police, who were alerted by the bank's silent alarm. Cabot is getting more and more stressed. While worrying about Fred not calling, he is completely thrown by Little Bobby arriving home for lunch just as the police arrive at the Wilson house. Cabot panics, grabs Bobby and runs into the yard under police fire. Bobby fakes his death to save himself, and Cabot is shot by a cop in the yard. Nancy is reunited with her now-contrite husband, who decides he will still go to Las Vegas, but with Nancy.

Melvin Dovereaux has finished his business in town and is getting ready to
return home. Along the way his car is stuck in a traffic jam caused by a
funeral. Suddenly, Melvin hears someone calling his name: a beautiful unknown
woman appears as if from nowhere in a car next to his. When the police flag him
on, the woman says "let's meet at the exit from Shrevenport" and speed off.
Melvin follows her and tries to catch up in vain. He gets off the highway into a
deserted road but finds that he's not alone. The hearse suddenly reappears and
involves Melvin in a dangerous race, in which the man is chasing an unknown
quarry and in turn in being chased by the hearse. He's not just losing the
chase, he's losing his own mind. He sees his name written on a wreath inside the
hearse. "Who is that in there?" he yells furiously. But no one answers. Full of
anguish and fear he finally reaches the turn-off where the beautiful woman is
waiting for him. Melvin can only hope that everything has been a dream and
hasn't really happened to him at all. The last film
directed by Lucio Fulci before his death.
